New Atlanta, Let’s Talk: Mental Health Support Is Just 3 Digits Away

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to the unique mental health challenges faced by communities of color. In Atlanta, this conversation is more urgent than ever.

A recent survey found that over 60% of Atlanta adults say their mental health is worsening, and more than half don’t know where to turn for help.

At the Atlanta Medical Association, we believe it’s time to speak up, seek support, and make sure our communities know that help is just three digits away.

Mental Health Matters — Especially in Minority Communities

Systemic inequities, cultural stigma, and lack of access to care disproportionately affect Black, Brown, and underserved populations. National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month is a call to action — to reduce stigma, increase awareness, and ensure equitable access to mental health services.

Why Awareness Is Critical

Even though mental health concerns are rising, many Atlantans still don’t know about available resources:

  • 60% report worsening mental health
  • More than 50% don’t know where to get help
  • Awareness of 988 remains too low in communities that need it most

What You Can Do This Month

  • Save 988 in your phone and share it with others
  • Talk openly about mental health with friends and family
  • Share this message on social media to help spread the word
  • Support organizations working to break down barriers to care
